Description

Frédéric Saulou is a young, talented designer of barely thirty years of age. He lives in Rennes and produces truly original collections of furniture, lighting and pieces of art. Often combining different skills, Frédéric Saulou conceptualizes each project as a study in its own right, almost sculptural, always preferring a sensitive and poetic approach to shapes and materials.

“A-symmetry” collection

This side table is part of the “A-symmetry collection” revealed in early 2018.

This collection is inhabited by two ideas, those of confrontation and convergence. A confrontation of materials, a convergence of shapes and lines. Each unit is made of wood and stone. While both are natural, the materials seem to oppose each other at first glance: one is plant-based, tender, and malleable, the other is a mineral, hard, and inflexible. Each piece is also made up of two identifical shapes that are facing each other but in an inverted manner.

This confrontation between two heterogenous materials and two opposed shapes, however, is able to disappear behind a certain skillful harmony. Brown marble or tainted stained ash wood? The lines respond to one another and make up a perfectly balanced whole.

The pieces of the A-symmetry collection are available in a limited and signed edition.
