Adroit Shelf by Frédéric Saulou

Frédéric Saulou is a young, talented designer of barely thirty years of age. He lives in Rennes and produces truly original collections of furniture, lighting and pieces of art. Often combining different skills, Frédéric Saulou conceptualizes each project as a study in its own right, almost sculptural, always preferring a sensitive and poetic approach to shapes and materials.

“Domestiquer” (“Domesticate”) Collection

In 2015, during an artists’ residency in Angers (France), his place of birth, Frédéric Saulou became particularly interested in slate and ornamental stones, as he had always been a lover of this material. Walking around town with his eyes rivetted to the sky, Frédéric Saulou greatly admired the buildings and local constructions, appropriating the use of this regional mineral material in order to perceive them in a new and contemporary way. He then changed scale, switching back to a more domestic format – furniture. Black slate, smoked glass and ornamental stone… Frédéric Saulou brings these construction-specific materials into our home: coffee tables, side tables, shelves and even mirrors now reign within our homes.

All the pieces from the “Domestiquer” collection are unique creations or are produced in limited series. Frédéric Saulou, keen to respect local know-how, surrounded himself with entrepreneurs from the region for the manufacturing of his pieces.
